Face Lift

Face Lift - DiagramThe best candidate for face lift surgery is a man or woman whose face and neck have begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is still strong and well-defined. Face lift surgery is usually performed on individuals between the ages of 40 and 60. However, face lifts are becoming more common for younger individuals these days and can also be successful in improving the facial appearance of those in their 70s and 80s. Mr. Vik Vijh performs a variety of face lift procedures in TIA’s facilities and can combine the procedure with other treatments such as chemical peels, fat injections, eyelid surgery, brow lift, or augmentation of the chin to create a comprehensive treatment plan that meets your specific needs. Visit our cosmetic surgery FAQs page to learn more about what to expect during, and after, the face lift procedure. You may also view photographs of face lifts in our Gallery.

With the increasing demand for face lift surgery, new procedures have been developed over the years. These include the MACS face lift, SMAS face lift, the extended SMAS face lift, and the deep plane face lift.

MACS face lift

The MACS (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension) face lift is often preferred because it is less invasive than other face lift surgeries and leaves a shorter scar. Through this face lift surgery, sagging tissues in the neck, cheeks, chin, or near the nose can be lifted, stretched, and held up with strong suspension sutures in the deeper tissues.

SMAS face lift

The SMAS (Superficial Musculo Aponeurotic System) face lift is a deeper face lift that pulls the muscles and connective tissues in the neck and face, and repositions the fat and muscles back onto the cheekbones.

Extended SMAS face lift

The SMAS face lift is the most popular face lift in the United States. It is much like the SMAS face lift, except that it also focuses on correcting the middle of the face by extending further towards the nose.

Deep Plane face lift

The Deep plane face lift begins with an incision in the scalp for the brow lift. Incisions are also made in the lower eyelid and inside the mouth. This face lift is better suited for younger patients because it does not involve the neck. Unfortunately, it takes a while for the swelling to go down, so results of the face lift are not always noticeable for three to six months after surgery.

The risks associated with face lift surgery include haematoma, nerve injury, infection, poor healing, and scars. While these are rare, they are possibilities that must be considered before undergoing face lift/cosmetic surgery. Our offices are pristine environments, equipped with the latest technology to minimize any risk.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein. When injected into facial muscles, it causes them to relax, thereby reducing facial wrinkles and lines. Mr. Vik Vijh can provide BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments to smooth your skin and give you a more youthful appearance. Treatments normally last from four to six months and can be repeated as results begin to fade. Our cosmetic surgery FAQ page has more information regarding BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments.

Skin Fillers

Skin Fillers - DiagramTissues under your skin act as natural fillers, giving your face a full, youthful appearance. As you age, these tissues deplete, especially in areas with constant movement, and create fine lines and wrinkles as a result. Skin fillers such as collagen or fat compounds can be inserted under the skin to fill in these creases and remove lines and wrinkles. Fillers may also be used to provide fuller lips, plump up sunken cheeks, or reduce the appearance of acne scars. Both temporary and permanent fillers are available. Mr. Vik Vijh can help you find one that is right for you. Preliminary answers to questions about skin fillers can be found on our cosmetic surgery FAQ page.

Obagi® Blue Peel

Skin Peel - DiagramThe Obagi® Blue Peel is a skin treatment that has been successful with both men and women of all skin types. This peel is used to rejuvenate the skin while treating problems such as fine lines and wrinkles, blemishes, acne, scarring, uneven pigmentation, large pores, age spots, and sun damaged skin.

The procedure itself lasts only about 30 minutes. However, your skin will begin to peel within a couple of days, and you will need to allow seven to ten days for it to completely heal, during which time you should refrain from wearing makeup. Soreness and irritation are possible side effects of treatment, but they are rare and minimal when they do occur. Some patients may also require more than one treatment. Continuing treatments must be spaced at least four weeks apart.

For more information, or to schedule an appointment for your Obagi® Blue Peel, contact Mr. Vik Vijh at The Institute of Aesthetics.

It can be used with other cosmetic surgery in our Birmingham and other locations according to your own preferences and needs.

Skin Cancer and Moles

Skin Cancer / Moles - DiagramSkin cancer is most common in elderly people, but can develop in individuals as young as 20 or 30. Skin cancer usually begins in moles or on normal areas of the skin that have been exposed to UV rays. This type of skin cancer is referred to as malignant melanoma and is commonly found on the shoulders, back, or the legs.

It is important to diagnose skin cancer in its earliest stages so that treatment can be performed to remove the cancer before it spreads. Symptoms associated with malignant melanoma include moles with ragged edges and moles that change in shape or color, itch, bleed, ooze, or are surrounded by sores, crusts, and reddened skin. If your moles have any of these symptoms, please contact Mr. Vik Vijh. A biopsy will be performed and the tissue will be examined under a microscope to determine if the mole is indeed cancerous. If it is, Mr. Vik Vijh will remove it through simple surgery. Please see our cosmetic surgery FAQ page for more information regarding skin cancer and moles.

If you are concerned that you may have skin cancer, would like to have moles removed, or have questions regarding face lifts and other cosmetic surgery, please contact the Birmingham-based Institute of Aesthetics for a consultation at any one of our four locations.
